Seller categories
Every advert on Mypetzilla shows what kind of seller placed it, as the PAAG minimum standards for pet adverts ask. The category comes from what the seller told us when they set up their account.
- Private seller
- Someone selling or rehoming their own pet, or an occasional litter bred at home. Private sellers who breed or sell regularly may need a licence from their local council.
- Licensed breeder
- A breeder who has given us the details of their breeding licence from their local council. Where our team has checked the licence, the advert says so.
- Licensed business
- A pet shop or other business that has given us the details of its licence from its local council. Where our team has checked the licence, the advert says so.
- Rescue or rehoming centre
- A rescue or rehoming organisation, either a registered charity or an independent rescue. Animals are usually rehomed for an adoption fee after a home check.
- Business seller
- A company or other organisation that has not given us licence details. Businesses that breed or sell animals usually need a licence from their local council.
Licence checked
“Licence checked” after Licensed breeder or Licensed business means our team has checked the seller's licence and the check has not expired. Without it, the licence details are what the seller gave us and we have not checked them. You can ask any seller for their licence number and check it with the council that issued it.
Something not right?
If you think a seller is in the wrong category, for example a dealer advertising as a private seller, use “Report this advert” at the bottom of the advert. You can also read PAAG's advice on buying a pet or look for a pet at one of the rescue centres we list.
