Description
Provided by the seller
Maize is a gorgeous Shepherd Cross (as stated in her passport) who originally was imported from a pound in Cyprus at 17 weeks of age. Despite her young age, I am her third owner in this country. Unfortunately, not suitable for myself, but seeking perfect family home where she can flourish.
Maize is fully family-accustomed and has previously lived with children well. She is entirely house trained, and alerts you if she needs to go outside but can't. She infrequently can get overexcited at visitors arriving and leaks a small amount, but this is droplets not a true puddle! Overnight she sleeps in her crate in my bedroom.
Maize currently wears an Adaptil collar (monthly renewal) to help her be calm enough to focus on training and life. She walks on lead with a harness, and is starting to learn not to pull, though is excitable from the moment you touch her lead and for the first part of any outing. This is manageable enough for her to be walked by a wheelchair user currently! In the park, Maize loves running off lead and has good but not perfect recall. Unfortunately, in her previous home vet treatment (fleaing/worming/jabs) were not kept up to date, this is now almost completely sorted, pending a final injection.
Maize is becoming accustomed to living with caged animals, but they are best kept beyond easy reach and not allowed to interact. Maize is cat-reactive both from inside the home, and in passing/seeing them outside (and she has a good cat-sense!), she is fairly dog-reactive on-lead, but is learning to play nicely off lead. Due to her breed, Maize has a tendency to alert you to people and items passing the home - big ones currently are other dog walkers and people moving wheelie bins.
Maize has a few anxiety issues based on her life so far, however even in the 2.5 months that she has been with me now, she shows great improvement. Maize is a very intelligent and willing dog who is easy to train as long as you have her attention!
It breaks my heart to rehome this gorgeous girl who I privately adopted to train as an assistance dog. Unfortunately I was not given full information on her and she will not be able to do this job. She will make a wonderful family pet and excels at loving and emotional support.
References and home visit (or video walk-around if further away) will be required. Maize will only be going to a home where her needs will be met as she's such a wonderful dog.

Before you adopt
- Think long termMany pets live for well over a decade: think about costs, moves, children and holidays.
- Meet the petMeet at least once, ideally twice, and see how they respond to you and your household.
- Ask about health and behaviourKnown conditions, medication, training and history: good rehomers will be open.
- Understand the processAsk how the rescue or owner rehomes: enquiry, meeting, home check where applicable, agreement.
- Allow time to settleMost pets take days to weeks to settle. Plan a calm first fortnight.
- Don't rushA good rehomer wants the right home, not the fastest one. Never send money before you have met the pet.
