Burmilla Characteristics

History & Origin

The Burmilla originated from the UK back in 1981 and is a cross between the Burmese and Chinchilla Persian. The standards were developed in 1984 and were rewarded a championship status back in the 1990s.

Burmilla Temperament

This cat breed is known for being very independent but at the same time, very loving of their owner. They’re very sociable, affectionate and playful. They tend to get on very well with children and other domestic pets.

This cat breed should be fed a well-balanced diet of raw meat combined with high-quality dry food. They’re relatively low maintenance and require a weekly brush to help keep their coat, healthy and shiny.

Grooming

Burmilla's coat is very easy to maintain. They love to be groomed and enjoy the time spent when their human brushes their coat. Regular brushing will help prevent the coat from becoming matted and the fur from felting as the fat content will be distributed evenly across their coat during a grooming session.

As with all cat breeds, they require regular teeth brushing and cleaning of their ears and eyes to prevent the build-up of dirt which can lead to infection. They also require regular nail trimming to keep their nails trimmed at a comfortable size.
