There are three sizes of the Poodle; from small, medium and large; all considered part of the same breed of dog. The standard size (which is medium) is the most popular of the three sizes.

The Poodle has a dignified attitude and portrays the most beautiful personality. Despite their appearance, they’re often very silly and love to play games. They’re extremely fond of their loved ones and will go to great lengths to show them their love and appreciation.

History & Origin

The Poodle dog breed has been around since the 15th century. History dictates, the Poddle was first bred in Germany and rapidly became very popular in other European countries and increasing popularity in England.

Poodle Temperament

The Poodle dog breed, irrespective of size loves to play. This dog breed has an instinct to always be on-guard and ready for any action or a playtime. They require a vigorous hour a day to play and run around to burn off their energy. If they don't receive enough exercise or release of energy, they are prone to becoming very naughty and destructive.

Poodle Training

The Poodle is known for being very intelligent. Training a Poodle is relatively easy as long as the training is consistent and rewarding accordingly. Housetraining your Poodle is easy and should be done from a young age. This dog breed can pick up tricks and commands straight away because of their eagerness to learn. They excel in obedience training, competition and agility.

Grooming

Grooming your Poodle takes dedication. This dog breed is as close as possible to being non-shedding, hypoallergenic dog breed but their grooming regime is high maintenance. They require regular rising, clipping and trimming to keep their coat in optimum condition.

Neglecting a Poodles coat will result in an unhappy dog with unruly curls, matted fur and can lead to skin infections as their skin is very sensitive.

Health

The Poodle does have a few health issues which can be checked during the breeding process with genetic testing of the breeding parents. The most common health issues are heart & thyroid issues, eye retina displacement, hip dysplasia and sensitive skin.

Poodle Exercise Needs

As with all dog breeds, Poodles require daily exercise. They're best suited to short bursts of playtime to release their energy. The Poodle loves to play and will happily play with their loved ones either in the home or in a suitable outdoor space.

Allowing your Poodle time of their lead to run free in a safe space will help keep them happy, healthy and content. The Poodle requires 2 daily walks as a minimum.
