Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog Overview

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog breed is an exaggerated bulldog and well developed with a large head and characteristic drop ears. The noticeable muzzle is covered by loose upper lips and the prominent eyes are positioned well apart. This breeds jacket is relatively stiff and quite fair. The general colors are brown merle, blue merle or red merle all trimmed in white or chocolate and white. Also preferred are the glass eyes (blue) or marble eyes. The Alpaha's body structure is sturdy and quite muscular, their hips are narrower then their chest. Their back is quite straight and long and the dog is high at the shoulders and the ears and tail are never shortened or docked. This breeds dewclaws are never removed and the feet are a bit cat like.

History & Origin

The Alapaha Blue-blood Bulldog gets its name "Alapaha' after the Alapaha River, in Southern Georgia and the name 'Blue-blood' originates from the Nobel devotion to their owners. This dog breed was used and still used for herding and originates back in the early 1800s. 


Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog Temperament

This dog breed is known to be kind, loyal, obedient and very protective over their family, which makes them great companion dogs. They get on very well with children and make the perfect playmate. 

Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog Training

The Alapaha has strong guarding instincts and very high prey drive, which is why they need proper, adequate training from a young age. This dog breed isn't suitable for first-time owners and would suit an individual or family with previous experience who can handle an intelligent dog, with a firm but gentle hand. Obedience training is also suitable for this dog breed. 

Grooming

The Alapaha has a smooth coat and sheds regularly and therefore wouldn't suit an individual or family with allergies. They require daily brushing to remove old, dirty hair. Regular cleaning of their ears, eyes and paws is also essential to prevent any infections. 

Health

As with the majority of dog breeds Alapaha Blue-blood Bulldog is prone to certain health conditions. Please note some of these can be ruled out during the breeding process and you must check with the breeder on what genetic testing has been done during the breeding process. health conditions the Alapaha is prone to are:

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Congenital deafness
  • Skin issues 

Children and other pets

This dog breed gets on well with children but is more suitable for children of an older age. Socalsition from a young age is appropriate and children playing with dogs should be taught boundaries and understand when the dog has had enough of playtime. Playtime should always be supervised by a responsible adult. This dog breed isn't suitable for small household pets as they have a strong prey drive.
